Xtreme Sled Setup

We at Xtreme Performance Center are very committed to modifying our machines to perform well at high altitude with our RMX and Xtreme Staged engine packages. That is not at the exclusion, though, of optimizing the performance of the stock machines. We focus a lot of time and effortmaking sure that those customers who prefer to ride stock still have great performance.

What makes the Xtreme Setup better than the competition's?

1. Testing. Actually that should be testing, testing, testing. Nobody in Colorado tests as much as Xtreme. Hours and hours of time are spent testing parts and setups on our state of the art engine dyno. During dyno testing, we're looking for maximum horsepower, best fuel mileage, and reliability by optimizing combinations of parts, jetting, ignition timing, cooling arrangement, etc. From there, nothing beats seat time. Once we feel that we found a good setup, we start at 8,000 feet and ride as high as 14,000 feet. How does the machine act in varied conditions? It's easy to tune for one location and one temperature. Finding a combination that is a good compromise in changing conditions is substantially harder. By logging lots of miles on test machines, though, we encounter the same conditions as our customers and can address any issues that arise. Many dealers only ride a couple of times a year - it's a bad sign when you ride more than your dealer. Xtreme employs a large test fleet of machines and almost all of our employees ride regularly. When we say we've tried it, we really have.

2. The Xtreme Setup Guarantee. We wish we had a great crystal ball that would tell us what is going to work in a new snowmobile without any testing. Unfortunately, we don't and the factory recommendations are never optimum for our high altitude conditions. So, we test. But what happens when your sled was sold and didn't have the optimum setup? All Xtreme sleds are sold with a setup guarantee, meaning that when we find a better setup than what was delivered to you, you receive the updated parts and installation for absolutely nothing. It's included in the price of the sled. For example, on the 1999 RMKs, we found that the ACCS (altitude compensating carburetors) did not function well about 9,000 feet and we found our standard clutch setup to be a little less than optimum. All of our customers brought their machines back and we removed the ACCS, rejetted the carburetors, and changed the clutch weights for free. It pays to consider that level of service when the dealer down the street offers to save you $100 on the price of the sled. Our setup is available to customers who didn't purchase the sled from us, but it costs $399. Even on a 800 RMK, a 400rpm loss in the clutching effectively costs you over 10hp so having the setup right is critical for maximum performance!
